Year:
From Industrial Ground to Cognitive Interface; Rewiring Fuxing as a Living Urban Nervous System.
Rewiring Fuxing is a prototype for cognitive urbanism.
Not a masterplan, not an object — but a civic nervous system.
Set on Fuxing Island — an industrial fragment in Shanghai, shaped by sediment, shipbuilding, and state logistics — the project activates a shift:
from infrastructure to interface,
from passive space to feedback architecture,
from the city as container to the city as cognitive medium.
Fuxing is not redesigned — it is rewired.
It becomes a distributed sensorium, where space learns from perception.
Mobile EEG tracks cognitive load across urban walks
AI cognition decodes emotional friction and perceptual stress
XR overlays and adaptive micro-infrastructures render invisible conditions visible, and responsive
Here, typology gives way to biosocial systems —
neurobenches, responsive canopy halos, interfaces tuned to mood, movement, memory.
Space no longer reflects intention — it reflects attention.
Urban experience is no longer programmed — it is co-evolved.
The metric is no longer visibility or access, but neuroplastic response.
Behavior becomes input.
Form becomes feedback.
The city becomes aware.
Fuxing is the first prototype for a conscious neighborhood —
a site that feels, learns, adapts.
A testbed for planetary cognitive urbanism:
Scalable. Transferable. Participatory.
From real estate to real time.
From public infrastructure to civic intelligence.
From island to interface.
This is how a city learns to care.
